I spent eight years as a Navy FMF Corpsman, then another decade on the floor of a metal stamping plant working twelve-hour shifts. Good work. Hard work. But not the life I was chasing. The outdoors was always where things made sense. On the water. In the timber. On the trail before sunrise. No noise. No clock. No weight from the day before.
